HISTORY OF PINYASAN

ORIGIN

In 1992, Tito S. Sarion, one of the councilors of Daet had a trip to Camiguin Islands. He witnessed the Lanzones festival, a street parade featuring the Lanzones harvested in the island, which with the years has earned fame and identity among the tourists.

Sarion thought of his province’s vast plantation of pineapple. So, when he returned to Daet he did not hesitate to present his idea. On April 14, 1993, during the regular session of the Sangguniang Bayan of Daet, councilor Sarion passed Resolution No. 107-93, approving the holding of the first Daet Pineapple Festival and every year thereafter as one of the tourism features of the Municipality of Daet. He reasoned that this kind of tourism promotion has been proven to be effective just like Camiguin’s Lanzones Festival. Just like Iloco’s Tobacco Festival and in other places where people and government join hands to conduct various activities relating to their main feature of celebrations. His vision was to make Camarines Norte a famous tourist destination, where the minds of the people are ready to accept visitors and tourists to promote local products. The Pineapple Festival, according to him, will serve as an instrument to develop agricultural productivity, promote and invite processor or industries for the pineapple. He also pointed out the support and encouragement of the department of Tourism in conducting a festival that will showcase the famous Formosa, known as the sweetest pineapple variety and abundantly grown in Camarines Norte. According to Sarion it is timely for the people of Camarines Norte to show their rich culture and prove that Camarines Norte is a “Land of Great Opportunities”. His proposal was seconded by councilors Yanto, Bacerdo, Baclagan, Bacuno and Abogado. The Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 114-93 was unanimously approved and through Executive Order No. 07-93 the annual celebration of the PINEAPPLE FESTIVAL was started, a major leap for Daet’s tourism industry.

VISION

The Camarines Norteans, particularly Daetenos, envisioned the collective efforts of Bicolanos to improve quality of life through social stability and sustainable development. To foster in their capabilities, heritage and vast natural resources in the land the famous and the sweetest queen of Formosa pineapple was showcased. This is a prime product that they could boast of.
