ECONOMY

The people of Daet has a mixed type of economy. In the rural areas the people depend on agriculture related activity such as rice growing, coconut and pineapple production augmented by livestock and poultry raising. In coastal barangays such as Awitan, Bagasbas, Gubat and Mambalite, the people rely on fishery related activities. In urban or poblacion areas the people are engaged in service, trade and commerce activities. Per capita income is Php 4,297.00. (as of 2002)

The Agricultural Land Area

The two major classification of land are alienable and disposable consisting of about 5,861 hectares. (Total land area).

The existing land use is categorized into three: the agricultural areas, the wetlands and the miscellaneous land use. About 3,590.63 hectares or 61.26% of the total land area is under the agricultural landuse category. These lands are planted to food crops such as palay, corn, vegetables. rootcrops and legumes. Other agricultural products planted are coconut, fruit trees and other fruits such as pineapple, papaya and banana. These areas could be found in the rural barangays.

The wetland area has a total of 96.2 hectares or 1.64%. It is where milkfish, crabs and lobster are being cultured. This area is fitted for mangrove rehabilitation for fish habitat. This could be found in portions of Barangays Awitan, Bagasbas, Gubat and Mambalite.

Miscellaneous land use is accounted to 2,174.17 hectares or 37.10% of the total land area. These are the built-up areas, beach sand and airstrips found mostly in the urban Barangays I - VIII and some areas of the 17 rural Barangays.
